mom (1)From one of our ‪#‎impactone‬ supporters: This is my angel mother. She left this world almost 6 years ago to watch over her babies from the other side. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at 42 years old, had a full mastectomy on her left side, and went through chemo and radiation. All clear! 7 years of all clear, until….. the morning of my brother’s wedding, she slipped on a painted line, and her hip broke. Cancer had metastasized to her bones. She spent the next 5 years fighting like crazy to stop it in it’s track. Several rounds of chemo and radiation later, it was too much for her body to handle. She passed away on June 13th, 2010 after almost 15 years after her initial diagnosis.
Before mom died she made us promise her that we would not let them put breast cancer as her cause of death. She didn’t want to surrender to the awful disease.
She had the most amazing attitude through it all. She shared her laughter and strength with many others fighting the same fight.
I never want to let her memory die, and I will continue to fight her fight on this side. I’ve taken every proactive step against breast cancer made available to me; Genetic testing, mammography, self checks, and staying active in the Breast Cancer Community. She was only 60 years old when she died. I miss her every day! I miss her smile, her laughter, her advice, her love and her friendship. I miss her positive attitude, her cooking, her hugs, her presence and her ability to make me feel like the most loved and special person in the whole world. I wasn’t done with her yet. I wasn’t done learning from her, laughing with her, having her know and love my kids. So with Mother’s Day just days away, I honor my mom for the impact she made not only on me, but everyone who knew and loved her. She was a warrior! We can never stop fighting and reaching out to help those fighting now.
